Employees from the Iraqi Youth and Sports Ministry receive their $20 emergency relief payments near downtown Baghdad. Thousands of former government workers have been paid over the last few weeks in U.S. dollars. These workers then have to exchange this money on the street where the dollar has plummeted against the Iraqi dinar. Once the banking system is back up and running, workers will be paid in dinar (ironically, featuring Saddam’s portrait on the face of the currency).
